Abstract
It has been well known that the numerous electromotive forces generated by cardiac activity in various part of the heart from moment to moment possess magnitude and direction. The mean electrical axis is the presentation of the mean magnitude and the average direction of the varied electromotion forces developed throughout depolarization and repolarization. The mean electrical axis projected into the frontal plan may be calculated from the limb leads with the aid of the Einthoven triangle. The angle between the QRS & T vector depends on the normality of the pathways of depolarization & repolarization in the heart muscle, and not upon the position of the heart in the body. According to Nadas, Marriott, and Moss, this QRS-T angle is significant indication for myocardial injury when over 40, 50, and 60 degree, respectively.
The present study was undertaken to the determine of QRS and T axis and QRS-T angle calculated from the limb lead with the use of the Einthoven triangle in electrocardiograms of 30 cases of normal and 20 cases of myocardial infarction patients.
1. Average frontal plan axis of QRS was 58.4 degree (-10 to degree) of T was 46.4 degree
(2 to 80 degree) and angle of QRS-T was 15.9 degree (0 to 39 degree) in normal group.
2. Average QRS-T angle of myocardial infarction was 78.1 degree.
3. Severe left axis deviation (over-30 degree) showed 30% of myocardial infarction.
